COF: Can you tell the readers a little about "You're Cordially Uninvited"?
JCP: "YCU" is a comedy/drama about two women, Rose and Lisa, who are about to get married. Then, things get a bit complicated and unravel at their engagement party.
COF: Can you tell readers a little about your character in the film?
JCP: I played Lisa. She is the one who is completely out of the closet and comfortable with her sexuality. It's hard for her to understand why Rose can't just come out to her parents and feeling accepted is something she struggles with throughout the film.
COF: What drew your interest or inspired you to take on this character and film?
JCP: I usually play the wacky best friend or funny sidekick, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to do something different. I also I think that the story is something a lot of people can relate to. I felt that the script was honest and lite hearted. Plus I wanted to make out with Gaby, ha!
COF: What do you think people will like/enjoy the most about the film?
JCP: I hope they love it all! I think they will enjoy everyones chemistry and the journey that Lisa and Rose go through together.
COF: Are there any other projects that you are working on?
JCP: Yes! You can see me on a few commercials and on the second season of Latino101 on SiTV. I just filmed a webseries called "Comedivas" which will be released on Valentines Day and have been working on a lot of different web videos. I also do stand-up about four nights a week in different venues around town!
COF: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the industry? Biggest reward?
JCP: Rejection can be tough and I definitely have brighter days then other. My biggest
challenge is taking it day by day and I am slowly learning to just love the journey. My biggest and greatest reward has been getting to work and hang with comics who I have looked up to for years.
COF: Where can a fan go to learn more about the film and donate to it?
JCP: You guys can go to http://www.indiegogo.com/Youre-Cordially-Uninvited
and check out our story there!
COF: Would you ever want to do any behind the scenes work (directing, producing, ect)?
JCP: Absolutely! I write and direct little projects all the time.
COF: If you weren’t in the film industry what would you be doing?
JCP: I love fashion....so maybe styling or designing clothing. That, or prostitution...
COF: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
JCP: There are so many comics who have inspired me. Here are a few and why...
Maria Bamford because she isn't scared of being awesome, Louis CK because he is brilliant, Sarah Silverman because she is so jewy, Tina Fey because she opened up so many doors for women in the writers room, Chelsea Handler because she drinks more then me, David Wayne because he was in my favorite sketch group ever (Stella) and Steve Martin because he is a true Renaissance man.
COF: More mainstream television is focusing on the lesbian and gay community by making having their main stars either take place in a homosexual relationship or be an out title character, what do you think this means for the future of lesbian/ gay entertainment and for the community all together?
JCP: It's great to see that its no longer a taboo subject. There are a lot of people who
aren't exposed to the gay community at all and I think television is a great way to educate them. I would love to see more gay and lesbian shows out there!
COF: Do you have any public social networking sites?
JCP: I have it all...
I think I still have a myspace too, but I reserve that for creepy people.
COF: What actor and/or actress would you love to work with one day?
JCP: There are so many actors and comics I would love to work with, but my top four are probably Will Ferrell, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Steve Martin.
COF: What processes or traditions do you go through when preparing for a role, if any?
JCP: I don't really have a process, the way I connect with a character is different everytime.
Questions from Twitter:
COF: What was it like working with Gabrielle Christian?
JCP: Lovely! We laugh nonstop when were together; she is super professional
and easy going. She is also really into Martial Arts and has kicked my butt.
COF: What kind of music are you listening to right now?
JCP: I love it all, but right now I am a huge Nicki Manij fan!
I also love Phoenix, Radiohead, Cut Copy, Adele, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs... I could
go on forever.
COF: What is your favorite movie of 2010 and all-time?
JCP: "Black Swan" blew me away. I'm a bit embarrassed to say, but my all time favorite flicks are "Wet Hot American Summer" and "Selena", don't ask.
COF: Are there any television shows that are “can’t miss” in your opinion?
JCP: Modern Family is too legit to quit and I never miss 30 Rock.
COF: Any final words for the fans/readers?
JCP: I had an incredible time filming YCU, hope everyone loves it!
